There May be Famine in Certain Parts of Gaza: US Government Representative

A senior US State Department official stated on Friday that there may be famine in some areas of the northern Gaza Strip and that a lack of vehicles is preventing additional supplies from reaching the Palestinian enclave under Israeli siege.
Under anonymity, the source told reporters, “We can confidently say that famine is a significant risk in the south and center but not present; in the north, it is both a risk and quite possibly is present in at least some areas.”

According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification report, hunger-related fatality rates were projected to surpass famine levels in the northern part of Gaza. In contrast, malnutrition and food insecurity have already surpassed them.

The State Department official stated that a truck shortage is one of the main problems impeding the provision of supplies. “At the moment, they’re practically at their maximum. The official was referring to the different border crossings into the enclave. “There aren’t additional trucks in Gaza to be loaded from Kerem Shalom or Rafah or Gate 96 with food,” the official stated.

According to the person, the US was collaborating with its allies and the global community to help the UN-purchase more vehicles to distribute aid.
