A Dutch corporation and a Dubai-based aviation company have agreed to introduce the first flying automobile to the Middle East and Africa.
According to a joint statement released this week, Aviterra, a manufacturer of aviation and aerospace components, plans to invest in PAL-V and purchase over 100 of the European company’s Liberty flying cars.
The firms did not provide a timeline for when deliveries of the Liberty car will start in the Middle East and Africa. However, Aviterra will be the only agent for the vehicle in those regions.
When in driving mode, the three-wheeled vehicle can reach a top speed of 160 kph and 100 kph in less than nine seconds thanks to the aircraft’s rear flaps and propellers being housed on the roof and in the back. This performance is comparable to that of a Toyota Hybrid Camry.
It takes five minutes to transform into an airplane, when the rear flaps and roof-mounted, helicopter-like blades lift. The gyroplane’s rear propeller is visible when two hatches open and the vehicle’s body raises.
As an aircraft, it has a flight range of between 400km and 500km and a maximum speed of 180kph. It can reach an altitude of 11,000 feet.
