Gunmen Kill at least 40 People in an Attack on a Performance Theater Outside Moscow

Five gunmen dressed in camouflage opened fire with automatic guns on spectators at a concert in the Crocus City Hall outside Moscow, killing at least 40 and injuring more than 100, in one of Russia’s worst such attacks in years. According to Reuters photos and video, flames surged into the sky, and plumes of black smoke ascended above the site.

According to Russian media, a second bomb occurred at the event, and some of the shooters locked themselves somewhere inside the building. The incident started at a concert by the band “Picnic.

“A stampede began, and everyone ran to the escalator,” the witness stated. “Everyone was screaming; everyone was running.”

PUTIN RECEIVES REGULAR UPDATES ON SHOOTING: KREMLIN

The shooting began days after President Vladimir Putin was re-elected to a six-year term and as Russia is fighting a war in Ukraine.

Putin is getting daily reports on the shooting at the Crocus City Hall concert near Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday night.

“Vladimir Putin was informed about the beginning of the shooting in the first minutes of what happened in Crocus City Hall,” the Kremlin said in a statement.
