UAE Residents without Medical Insurance Incur the Financial Burden.

Dh800 for consultation: UAE residents without medical insurance bear financial burden

The cost of healthcare in the UAE can be prohibitively expensive for many people, particularly those without medical insurance. From doctor appointments to emergency treatments, fees can quickly build up, straining tight resources.

Ahmed Ateeq, a businessman from Deira, moved to Dubai a year ago to start his firm. When he became unwell, he was left in a difficult situation because he lacked medical insurance. “My residency, visa, and everything else were in place, but I hadn’t applied for medical insurance for a long time and I had to bear the brunt of healthcare expenses in December last year,” Ahmed said.

Ahmed had postponed enrolling for medical insurance after being ill in December, hoping he wouldn’t get sick again soon. However, fate had different intentions. “In February, I fell ill again, and I had to shell out Dh800 for my medical expenses,” Ahmed went on to say. In just three months, he spent more than Dh1,400 without insurance, emphasizing the financial impact of healthcare bills in the absence of coverage.
