The $12 million Dubai World Cup, a Group 1 race held over 2,000 meters on dirt, is the main event on the nine-race calendar. With a $30.5 million total prize fund, the Dubai World Cup trophy was crafted by Garrard in 1996. It is a magnificent award made of sterling silver with elaborate chased workmanship and a rich gold gilded finish.
Tuz, ridden by TP O’Shea, wins the Dubai Golden Shaheen sponsored by Nakheel with an incredible gear change. Tuz had to pass through a needle’s eye to declare victory. Tuz has shown Oshea right to have faith in him after his brutal performance in the Dubai Golden Shaheen.
Under jockey Ryusei Sakai, Forever Young won the UAE Derby. The Real Steel colt showed plenty of energy to overtake the established leader, Mickael Barzalona, on Auto Bahn, even though he had been racing wide the entire race. This extended his unbeaten run to five races. Pandagate beat Mendelssohn Bay to third place.
